Poetry

Words woven with love, courage, and truth

By Kizzy Petit

Poetry has always been the way I translate life’s hardest lessons into beauty and meaning.

My upcoming collection, The Unexpected Gift, is a poetic memoir of survival, healing, and rebirth.

While the full book will be published in 2026, here you’ll find glimpses of my journey, along with tender verses written for my daughter, who has been the light guiding me through every chapter.

The Story Behind The Unexpected Gift

I wrote this book with shaking hands and a wide-open heart.

In the middle of court hearings, legal injustices, and a migratory process that tried to erase my voice.

While battling health scares—palpitations, panic attacks— and waking up in the dark, many nights.

With no family support, little money, a mountain of stress, and no certainty of what tomorrow would bring.

I wrote between school runs and washing-up, homework meltdowns, forgotten items at school, last-minute birthday presents, and emotional storms.

I wrote while being gaslit, ignored, disrespected, and pulled into battles I never chose, because I had a story that needed to be told.

Not to expose anyone.

But to free myself.

To give my daughter a legacy of truth.

To remind other women that we are allowed to rise, even while we are still bleeding.

I wrote through chaos.

I wrote through healing.

I wrote because it was my soul’s way to survive.

This is not a story of being broken.

It is a story of being reborn.

No perfect conditions. No excuses. Just pure courage and creation.

The Unexpected Gift is my heart on paper. It’s for anyone who has ever been told to stay small and chose to rise anyway.

Stay tuned. This one’s for the survivors, the dreamers, the mothers, the fighters, and the women remembering their power.
