Welcome to my world of words, where stories spark courage, poetry speaks to the soul, and every page is an invitation to remember who you truly are.

I’m Kizzy, a writer, storyteller, mother, and seeker of meaning.

My name, rooted in the Mandinka language, means Stillness; be at peace; a message I’ve carried with me across continents, challenges, and rebirths.

I was born in Venezuela and raised in a world where silence often replaced safety, but I found my strength in words. My path has included a turbulent childhood, domestic violence, starting over in a new country, and navigating the everyday complexities of co-parenting as a single mother. These lived experiences didn’t break me; they shaped me into a woman who finds meaning in the mess and power in the pause.

Through every challenge, I’ve chosen not just to survive, but to rise, rebuild, and reclaim.

Along the way, I earned four academic degrees, including a PhD in Communication and Management Science, and spent over a decade teaching at the university level. But it was my daughter — my muse — who reminded me of life’s truest lessons: to wonder, to slow down, to live from the heart.

This inspiration led me to create the Stories of an Unhurried Childhood, a series of children’s books that celebrate nature, presence, and the magic of imaginative play in a world that often rushes us past the most precious moments.

Today, my work bridges storytelling, soulful guidance, and personal healing. Through my books, poetry, and Substack community, The Unexpected Gift, I explore themes of motherhood, identity, rebirth, and resilience. Whether I’m writing whimsical tales for children or soul-stirring reflections for women, my mission is always the same:

To create stories and spaces that nurture healing, awaken truth, and empower women and children to live with courage, creativity, and soul.

I believe stories have the power to heal, transform, and connect us — and that your story, just like mine, holds hidden gifts waiting to be unwrapped with courage and grace.

Thank you for being here.
I’m so grateful to walk this journey alongside you. 💛

With heart,
Kizzy Petit
